Formerly known as a periodic inspection, an EICR is a 5 yearly test of your electrical installation.
As a business owner or landlord, you have a legal duty to ensure employees, customers and tenants are safe. Any issues with electric wiring, circuits, or accessories such as sockets have the potential to cause electric shocks and can cause fires. Ensuring your installation is in good order is vital to prevent such incidents.
Our qualified and experienced electricians will carry out a visual inspection of the installation to assess if there are any serious defects or items in need of repair before moving onto test individual circuits. Some testing will be carried out live whereas others will be carried out when the power is off. If your circuits are clearly and correctly labelled they can be switched off individually with less disruption.
The cost of an EICR is determined by the number of distribution boards you have and the number of circuits to be tested. Where previous test records are provided, testing 20% of your installation should be sufficient but in the absence of test history, we will provide a quote to test the entire installation.
For smaller properties such as flats, apartments and small commercial properties we usually allow half a day for testing whereas for larger properties or sites with a couple of buildings, we will advise customers to allow a few days.
When our electrician has completed the test and inspection, we will provide a satisfactory or unsatisfactory report. The report will show details of the test and, if applicable, itemised issues with codes such as C1, C2. Where remedial works are required, we can provide a quotation to rectify these and then on completion, provide a satisfactory test report.
A significant amount of domestic fires are caused by old or faulty equipment which has not been maintained effectively. As with all compliance works, it is important to employ a competent and qualified person.
